As a British or foreign company looking to raise money on London’s financial markets (AIM or PLUS),
where do you start? The first issue to deal with is whether a market listing is appropriate for
your business and whether you meet the listing requirements. An IPO on the London AIM can take
around four months - but preparation for the IPO process should begin at least a year in advance.
Listing on the London markets can be daunting if you don’t have experience of the way financial
institutions work in London. Navigating the London market can be difficult, and even UK companies
not familiar with the process usually hire a non-executive director with City experience to help
them.
The listing process is also time-consuming and there is a lot of work to be done in dealing
with your broker, lawyers, accountants and other advisers. This can be very distracting for the
management of the company, and particularly so if you are not based in the UK and have significant
time zone differences.
